Freakie Geek Stuff

If it's not one thing it's another. This time it's technology. Although it is not exactly fun right now, it does happen to be one of my favorite topics so I guess I can deal with it (not to mention, it is my job...)

Usually my problems are stupidly human related... usually to do with the poor social state of affairs of the rez. Things like hungry poor people getting screwed by the system... or drugs tearing lives apart... or even worse... MSW's and f***ed up judges destroying families....

But today it's just technology. Thank god. it started out rather innocently.... some of our Windows 98 users couldn't log on to the network... no problem.... just reboot the server. Well, then it came up with this NTLDR missing error.... no problem.... just reinstall the raid array drivers and run windows repair. Well, we ended up doing an in-place upgrade. And so goes the beginning of what ended up being the total destruction of our one and only single domain controller machine running Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and WINS.... After sitting on the phone with MS support for nearly 12 hours trying every trick in the book, it ended up there were numerous hardware issues. We finally called Dell and they sent out parts and a repair man at 1:00 a.m. I then tried more fixes with MS... been working with them day and night and way into the early morning trying to get it right.... we are almost to the point where we can restore the SYSVOL and System State from tape back up.... just need to finish with the index and catalog jobs... So, anyway... that is how my freakie week has been going...

The IT world can definitely be insane.

Exactly! And then we stayed confused for days on end as if nothing else in the free world mattered...

Like they used to say in the Army, the whole thing turned out to be one big cluster f***!

BTW, thanks Mick for the comment... sometimes i think i am just talking to myself, which maybe explains why i am a little on the solipsistic side : )
